NEW JERSEY ENERGY LINK

NEW JERSEY ENERGY MAP
The New Jersey (NJ) Energy Link is an offshore electrical transmission cable, buried under the ocean, linking energy resources and users in northern, central and southern New Jersey. This innovative transmission project will span the length of New Jersey and carry 3,000MW of electricity.

BRINGING CLEAN WIND ENERGY FROM OFF NEW JERSEY’S COAST

Offshore wind is an abundant source of clean energy that will also create 74,000 job-years of work (about 10,000 to 20,000 workers) in the State. The NJ Energy Link helps us reach the goal of developing offshore wind.

  • Reduces the cost of offshore wind energy
  • A super highway for wind farms makes wind power more reliable
  • Ratepayers get added benefits from a transmission line that works 100% of the time,
not only when the wind is blowing

STRENGTHENING NEW JERSEY’S ECONOMY

According to a study by IHS Global Insight, building the NJ Energy Link and offshore wind will:

  • Create approximately 74,000 job-years of work (about 10,000 to 20,000 workers)
  • Pump $9 billion into the State economy
  • Bolster state and local tax revenues by $2.2 billion

LOWERING ENERGY PRICES

New Jersey’s high energy prices hurt consumers and businesses. The NJ Energy Link lowers New Jersey energy prices by:

  • Reducing costly congestion on the power grid
  • Minimizing energy peaks that cause high prices
  • Moving the cheapest and cleanest energy to where it is needed, when it is needed

AVOIDING BLACKOUTS AND THE NEED FOR ON-LAND TRANSMISSION

The NJ Energy Link is an investment in a stronger, more reliable grid:

  • Reduces blackouts
  • Strengthens the power grid
  • Minimizes costly upgrades to the grid and the building of controversial transmission
    lines on land
